The Amazon Sword, also known as Echinodorus amazonicus, is a Rosette plant that is extremely popular with many an aquarium enthusiasts. Usually reaching to about 40 cm when placed in the proper water conditions the Amazon Sword Plant is dark green with relatively short stems and sword like leaves with a pointed tip. The stems grow at a rapid rate and require constant pruning, it is also known as the silver bullet against algae. The plant is greedy and simply removes algae's food source. Limnophila sessiliflora it is a dwarf plant that shoots densely covered leaves. In an aquarium the feathered leaf shape is much more apparent and the colour changes to a light green. This is an excellent alternative to camombas which are a little more light hungary. The stems are better planted in large groups.
